  • 1334 – First appearance of the name of Lugoj in a papal tax register.
  • 1369 – First official attestation of the district of Lugoj.
  • 1376 – First mention of the fortress of Lugoj.
  • 1551 – Isabella, the widow of King Ioan Zapolya, gives Lugoj a charter of privileges and a coat of arms.
  • 1552-1658 – During the struggles against the Ottoman Turks, the Banat of Lugoj and Caransebeş preserves its autonomy and unites with Transylvania.
  • 1658-1718 – Lugoj under Ottoman domination.
  • 1699 – The Ottomans demolish the fortress of Lugoj.
  • 1718 – Lugoj now comes under Austrian rule and becomes the capital of the Lugoj-Faget district. Beginning of the policy of colonisation with German people the township of “German Lugoj” is founded on the left bank of the river Timiş.
  • 1778 – After Banat is incorporated into Hungary, Lugoj becomes the county town of Caraş County.
  • 1795 – Romanian and German Lugoj unite to form “the little borough of Lugoj”.
  • 1848 – The Great National Assembly on the Field of Liberty, presided over by Eftimie Murgu.
  • 1850 – By Imperial decree, Lugoj becomes the headquarters of the Greco-Catholic diocese of Banat.
  • 1881 – Caraş-Severin County is set up with Lugoj as its county town.
  • 1889 – Lugoj is given the official title of Town.
  • 1892-1894 – The Memorandum Movement: identity rights are claimed for the Romanian nation within the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy.
  • 1918 – The Great National Assembly, as a consequence of World War I, after the break-up of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
  • 1918 – The Unification of Ardeal and Banat with Romania. Lugoj citizens participate in the Great National Assembly in Alba Iulia.
  • 1925 – Caraş-Severin County is divided into two. Lugoj becomes the capital of Severin County.
  • 1945– The period of domination by the Communist regime.
  • 1989 – Lugoj frees itself from the Communist dictatorship –the second town in Romania to achieve this.
